"VISIONS, artistic look at the Tinto River"

Project declaration

VISIONS, artistic look at the Tinto River,  shows an abstract vision of the characteristics and extraordinary beauty of the Tinto River in the Huelva province in Southern Spain. Its natural red color water flows among the ochre and yellowish mineral sediments deposited on the rocks and mud contrasting with the green vegetation that grows along the riverbank. It is an unique river of acid water with very low oxigen, which transports diluted sulphur and iron minerals as a result of the action of extromphile bacteria. NASA, in collaboration with the Spanish Center for Advance Scientific Research (CSIC) perfoms scientific studies in the area based on its geomicrobiological similarity with Planet Mars.

Influenced by my previous microscope research experience at the University Cytology lab,  I mentally submerge myself into de various elements of the river.  My objective is to capture and show their visual richness through abstract images. The Tinto River constitutes a changing setting depending on each season and predominant light.  During the summertime, due to the usual dry weather,  dried mud fractures forming outstanding polygonal mud cracks while, mineral salts, precipitate as spectacular structures over the rocks and riverbank.  As an artist canvas, my camera sensor gets coated with what nature paints with its vibrant colours, forms and textures resulting in almost pictorial abstract images. The result is a fantasy universe in our planet Earth which invites the observer to undertake an imaginative trip through this visual experience. The photo serie aims to shows the energy that the Tinto river transmits me every time I visit it.
